Baseball Recap: Wabasso Comes Up Short

Wabasso had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 2-7 to make it five. They came up short against the New Ulm Cathedral Greyhounds, falling 15-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rabbits of the 15-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

As for New Ulm Cathedral, their record now sits at 8-3. Considering they have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For New Ulm Cathedral's part, Ryler Collins made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Collins has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, New Ulm Cathedral let Evan Blekestad and Alex Portner run wild. Blekestad went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Portner went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Portner has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Rieser, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: New Ulm Cathedral beat Wabasso by a score of 6-0 later that day.
