Basketball Recap: Heights Takes a Loss

Heights kicked off their season on the road on Saturday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell 63-55 to the Dickinson Gators.

Despite the defeat, Heights saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Eric (EJ) Beard shot 44% from the field to rack up 27 points and eight steals. Another player making a difference was Eric Ekwegbara, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 11 rebounds.

Dickinson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but TroyNelle Belle led the charge by dropping a double-double with 20 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds gave Belle a new career-high. Valin Idusuyi was another key player, going 5-for-10 en route to 13 points along with five boards and four steals.

Heights has already played their next contest, a 51-48 victory against Fulshear on the 17th. As for Dickinson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 59-56 win against Fort Bend Clements on the 18th.
