Basketball Recap: South Park Takes a Loss

South Park was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by the Del Norte Tigers 59-29. The Burros lost against the Tigers in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 29-27 score last time.

Del Norte had a senior duo take command as Tytus Atencio went 8-for-20 to rack up 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals and Lashawn Trujillo posted 12 points along with seven boards and four blocks. Trujillo is becoming a predictor of Del Norte's success: when he posts at least three blocks the team is 2-1 (and 6-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Kingston Wilcox, who went 5-for-7 on his way to 11 points.

South Park's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Del Norte, they pushed their record up to 8-9 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, South Park will venture away from home to face off against Pikes Peak Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Del Norte, they will face off against Hoehne at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Hoehne's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests.
