Basketball Recap: Maria Geary Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Wayland-Cohocton

Avon won against Mount Morris last Friday with 41 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Monday. The Avon Braves snuck past the Wayland-Cohocton Eagles with a 41-37 win. The Braves didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this victory makes it their second in a row.

Avon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Maria Geary led the charge by dropping a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Angelie Salogar, who posted six points in addition to 13 rebounds and five steals.

Avon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.

Avon is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 3-6 record this season. As for Wayland-Cohocton, they dropped their record down to 0-6 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Avon will square off against Whitman at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Whitman will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Avon surely won't give up without a fight. As for Wayland-Cohocton, they will challenge Naples at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
