Basketball Recap: Canisius Comes Up Short

Canisius entered their matchup against Bishop Timon-St. Jude on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Canisius Crusaders lost 74-50 to the Bishop Timon-St. Jude Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Crusaders have suffered since December 27, 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Canisius lost, don't look at Jack Cullinan. Despite the final result, he went 5 of 7 en route to 12 points. Another player making a difference was Patrick Enright, who posted six points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bishop Timon-St. Jude to victory, but perhaps none more so than Damien Johnson, who went 7 for 14 on his way to 21 points. The contest was Johnson's third in a row with at least ten points. Nakyhi Harris was another key player, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Canisius' loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 13-3. As for Bishop Timon-St. Jude, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.

Canisius and Bishop Timon-St. Jude should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. Canisius will take on Cardinal O'Hara at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 445 places (19 vs. 464). Canisius will stroll in with a nine game home winning streak (dating back to last season), but they should still watch out: the last time they lost at home was their February 16 matchup with Bishop Timon-St. Jude. Meanwhile, Bishop Timon-St. Jude (ranked 77th) will meet St. Mary's (ranked 332nd) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
