Preview: Rutherford Rams vs. Ribault Trojans
The Rutherford Rams will head out on the road to square off against the Ribault Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Rutherford is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 14 games.
Rutherford stacked a ninth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat West Florida 65-28 on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-10.
Shakirah Edwards was her usual excellent self, scoring 15 points along with eight assists and seven steals. That's the first time this season that she posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Ayonnie Houston, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Ribault's good fortune finally ran out last Saturday. They took a 47-33 bruising from Rickards. Ribault found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 17 to 7 on offense.
Despite their defeat, Ribault saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kayla Massey, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Donaldson, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Rutherford's win bumped their record up to 16-1. As for Ribault, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-3.
