League recap: Brunett throws longest pass in league this season for Jefferson

Alex Brunett and Austyn Paulsen provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Fairfield. The connection was good for 71 yards, the longest such play in Southern 5B this season.

Manhattan/Manhattan Christian extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Broadwater, 20-7. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Tigers.

Jefferson's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Brunett threw for 174 and one touchdown and Sam Fletcher had 86 yards receiving. On the ground Jed Fike chipped in 59 yards. Paulsen helped Jefferson's passing attack out by catching three balls for 85 yards.

Jefferson's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Panthers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Brunett has thrown for 788 yards and eight touchdowns this season, while Tony Butler has 11 catches for 233 yards. David Weinmeister leads the league in rushing with 265 yards.

A big matchup in Southern 5B this week will be when Whitehall/Harrison takes on Manhattan/Manhattan Christian. The Trojans are in third place, while the Tigers are in first place.

Three Forks/Willow Creek made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,680 from 10,331. The improvement came about via a 47-28 victory over Sweet Grass County last week.
