Football Recap: Norco Piles Up the Points Against Citrus Valley

The matchup between Norco and Citrus Valley on Thursday hardly resembled the 17-10 effort from their previous meeting. The Cougars breezed past the Blackhawks to the tune of 52-21. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cougars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Blackhawks are ranked 170th).

Norco's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dylan Troelstrup, who rushed for 138 yards and three scores while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Another signal caller making a difference was Julian Medina, who threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes.

Norco's run defense was locked in: Citrus Valley could only muster 2.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Eddy Hernandez for the heroic effort on defense: he. Norco didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.2.

Norco's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. Taevin Black was especially locked on to Citrus Valley's QB and sacked him twice. Another thorn in the Blackhawks' side was Tony Gonzalez, who picked up a sack and made four total tackles in addition to snagging two interceptions.

Although Citrus Valley took the loss, they still got scores from Kameron Garcia, Dominic Robles, and Adam Sanchez.

The victory keeps Norco at an undefeated 5-0. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 45.2 points this season. As for Citrus Valley, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Norco will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Murrieta Valley at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. As for Citrus Valley, they will challenge Shadow Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
