Derrick Streetman commands the offense for Bears win

Recap: Burke County Bears vs. Jenkins County War Eagles

The Burke County Bears posted their closest win yet this season on Saturday. They skirted past Jenkins County 48-46. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Burke County also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.

Burke County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Derrick Streetman led the charge by scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Bryce Wimberly was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.

The victory makes it two in a row for Burke County and bumps their season record up to 14-4. As for Jenkins County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burke County and Wayne County will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Wayne County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 421st, while Burke County is ranked 145th). As for Jenkins County, Jenkins County and Savannah Classical Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Savannah Classical Academy is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home.
