Basketball Recap: Mishawaka Marian Takes a Loss

Mishawaka Marian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a blow against the South Bend Washington Panthers, falling 70-13. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 287th, while the Panthers are ranked eighth).

Fane Sete was Mishawaka Marian's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Kariya Byer held things down on the boards with 11 rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

South Bend Washington's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Monique Mitchell, who went 10 of 15 on her way to 25 points in addition to five assists and four steals. Mitchell's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kira Reynolds, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 boards.

Mishawaka Marian's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for South Bend Washington, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 16-1.

Mishawaka Marian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 45-24 win against New Prairie on the 9th. As for South Bend Washington, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 71-21 victory against South Bend Adams on the 9th.
