The Goldwater Bulldogs will head out to square off against the Flagstaff Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Goldwater has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Goldwater is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Moon Valley on Wednesday. They lost 13-2 to the Rockets.
Braeden Evjen was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, Flagstaff entered their tilt with Coconino on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 8-1 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Connor Iniguez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Will Carpenter was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
Flagstaff was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They are 11-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Flagstaff's record now sits at 17-9. As for Goldwater, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.
Goldwater might still be hurting after the 14-1 defeat they got from Flagstaff when the teams last played back in April of 2015. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
