Richmond hasn't had much luck against El Cerrito recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Oilers are taking a road trip to challenge the Gauchos at 4:00 p.m. Richmond has given up an average of 20.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Richmond is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Monday. They lost 20-7 to Swett.
Meanwhile, El Cerrito got the win against Vallejo on Friday by a conclusive 23-2. The result was nothing new for the Gauchos, who have now won 14 matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Natalia Gawlikowski and Courtney Miles were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Gawlikowski pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Meanwhile, Miles struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. At the plate, Gawlikowski went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Miles went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Gawlikowski has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, El Cerrito got a massive performance out of Arlie Tatum, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three doubles. Those five hits gave Tatum a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Martinez-Rojas, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases.
The win made it two in a row for El Cerrito and bumps their season record up to 15-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 22.5 runs over those games. As for Richmond, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
Richmond suffered a grim 28-7 defeat to El Cerrito in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Oilers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
