Baseball Recap: Lovington Comes Up Short

If Lovington was feeling good fresh off their 13-3 takedown of Clovis last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Lovington took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Goddard Rockets on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 8-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Mika Pando made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Camon Ochoa, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Lovington's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Goddard, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-3.

Coming up, Lovington will be playing in front of their home fans against Roswell at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lovington's pitchers better be ready for this one: Roswell has averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Goddard, they will take on Artesia in a tournament on Saturday.
