6A District 5 recap October 1, 2013
Lake Weir scaled the state rankings by moving to 384 from 423 this week, the biggest jump in 6A District 5. The Hurricanes climbed the ranks as a result of besting Tavares 15-14.
Lake Weir and the Bulldogs played the closest game in the league this week, with Lake Weir eventually emerging with a 15-14 victory.
Vanguard's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Adam Robles threw for 458 and 4 touchdowns and Natrelle Jamerson had 192 yards receiving. On the ground Donte Lerma contributed 125 yards. Elkanah Dillon helped Vanguard's passing attack out by catching 8 balls for 119 yards.
He was 31-42 with 0 interception.
Jamerson was the best wideout in the league this week as the Knights fell to Bolles. Jamerson racked up 11 receptions for 192 yards. Dillon helped Vanguard's passing attack out by catching 8 balls for 119 yards.
Vanguard's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Knights feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Robles has thrown for 1,373 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, while Jamerson has 31 catches for 633 yards.
Two of the top teams in 6A District 5 will go toe-to-toe this week when Vanguard takes on Citrus. Alex Castaneda's team's offense has racked up 188 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Hurricanes have allowed only 35 on the year.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Knights and Citrus face off next week.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Rayburn Green's team takes on Vanguard. The Hurricanes are in first place, while the Knights are in third place.
Jason Robinson's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,193 from 9,280. The advance stemmed from a 15-14 victory over Tavares last week.
