Softball Recap: Baker Comes Up Short

After flying high against Robertsdale last Tuesday, Baker came back down to earth. The Hornets took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mary G. Montgomery Vikings on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Baker saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Baker's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 20-9. As for Mary G. Montgomery, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-11 record this season.

Baker will challenge Daphne at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mary G. Montgomery, they will take on Faith Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rams' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
