Football Recap: Silliman Institute Takes a Loss

Silliman Institute played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 52-6 loss at the hands of the Jackson Prep Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 94th in Louisiana, while the Patriots are ranked 24th in Mississippi).

Wade Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Jackson Prep, rushing for 102 yards and two scores. Smith showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 59 yards. Luke Essary was another key player, throwing for 120 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 80% of his passes.

Silliman Institute has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Jackson Prep, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.

Looking ahead, Silliman Institute will head out on the road to challenge Parklane Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pioneers' defense has only allowed 10.4 points per game this season, so the Wildcats' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Jackson Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Oak Forest Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
