Softball Game Preview: Genoa Area Comets vs. Otsego Knights

Genoa Area is 1-8 against Otsego since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Comets will be playing at home against the Knights at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Having struggled with eight defeats in a row, Genoa Area turned things around against Rossford on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Bulldogs. The Comets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Makayla Magrum spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Emersen Bickel was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Maddie Bronowski, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Genoa Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March.

Otsego came out on top against Liberty Center on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Knights were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Tigers. Considering the Knights have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

The win made it two in a row for Otsego and bumps their season record up to 11-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Genoa Area, their win bumped their record up to 4-10.
