Preview: Kathleen Red Devils vs. Bishop Moore Hornets
Kathleen has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Bishop Moore Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kathleen will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 342nd, while Bishop Moore is ranked 83rd).
Kathleen fell victim to Lakeland's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Dreadnaughts 37-0. The last quarter was a mere formality, since the game's final score was reached by the end of the third quarter.
Meanwhile, Bishop Moore had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 56-7 victory over Lake Buena Vista. Considering Bishop Moore has won four matchups by more than 31 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Bjorn Jurgensen, who threw for 205 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Diaz, who gained 142 total yards and a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Lake Buena Vista to a paltry 83 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Bishop Moore's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Jake Kreul and his two sacks.
Kathleen's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Bishop Moore, their victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-3.
Kathleen was taken down by Bishop Moore 45-0 in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Thankfully for Kathleen, Riley Willis (who threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
