High school basketball: Five-star prospect Brandon McCoy announces transfer to Sierra Canyon for senior season

No. 2 Class of 2026 prospect averaged 16.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 3.6 assists per game for St. John Bosco as a junior.

According to Krysten Peek of Yahoo Sports, five-star high school basketball prospect Brandon McCoy is leaving St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) after three seasons with the program to spend his senior season at Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.).

Despite missing a dozen games due to injury, McCoy averaged 16.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 3.6 assists per game to earn MaxPreps Junior All-America honorable mention.

In 2023-24, the five-star guard earned MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year honors after averaging 18.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.4 steals per contest to guide the Braves to the Division I state title and No. 25 spot in the MaxPreps Top 25.

The 6-foot-5 guard is regarded as the No. 2 prospect in the Class of 2026 according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He holds over 20 offers including Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Baylor, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA and USC.

At Sierra Canyon, McCoy will team with top 40 senior Maximo Adams to form an elite one-two punch for the Trailblazers. Sierra Canyon will be among the top contenders to capture the Open Division state championship next season along with Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) and St. John Bosco.



Sierra Canyon captured its fourth state title in program history last season, knocking off Lincoln (Stockton) 58-53 in the Division I championship game to finish the season with a record of 27-7.
