Soccer Game Preview: Wakeland vs. Lone Star

The Wakeland Wolverines are taking a road trip to take on the Lone Star Rangers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Wakeland will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.

Wakeland had to skate by with only a one-goal margin when they last took the pitch, which might have inspired the four-goal drubbing they dealt Creekview on Tuesday. Everything went Wakeland's way against Creekview as Wakeland made off with a 5-1 victory. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by three goals or more this season.

Meanwhile, Lone Star narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Turner 2-1. Given the Rangers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Lions are ranked 263rd), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wakeland's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those four contests. As for Lone Star, their record is now 11-3.

Everything went Wakeland's way against Lone Star in their previous meeting back in February, as Wakeland made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wakeland since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
