Baseball Recap: Athens Has No Trouble Against Midwest Central

Athens hadn't done well against Midwest Central recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Raiders. The Warriors not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25, 2024 (when they won 16-0).

Cody Tobias made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Carson Moscardelli was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Athens' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 8-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Kenneth Baker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Athens always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Athens and bumps their season record up to 10-10. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Midwest Central, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-16.

Looking ahead, Athens will head out on the road to face off against Lanphier at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Midwest Central, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Henry-Senachwine at 4:30 p.m.
