Concord Academy is a perfect 4-0 against Piedmont Community Charter since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Concord Academy Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Piedmont Community Charter Patriots at 4:00 p.m. Concord Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Piedmont Community Charter will be coming in after a defeat.
While Eagles fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Monday's season opener. They had just enough and edged out Greater Cabarrus S 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since February 29, 2024.
Caisyn Berg made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Milee Amburn, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Zoe Williams was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Piedmont Community Charter unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of Hickory Grove Christian by a score of 7-6 on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Lions: they've now lost three in a row.
Like Concord Academy, Piedmont Community Charter also got a great game from a two-way player: Sophie Gibson. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Gibson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, Chloe Rae Baker and Reagan Swanger stepped up to the plate in a big way. Baker scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4, while Swanger scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Bailee Roper, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Concord Academy took their victory against Piedmont Community Charter when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Concord Academy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
