Mauk goes over 10,000 career passing yards

The Ohio junior quarterback has the top passing mark in the country this week.

With his 496-yard passing performance in a 70-21 win over Elida, Kenton (Ohio) quarterback Maty Mauk has become the 27th player in national high school history to throw for more than 10,000 career yards.

According to statistics posted on MaxPreps for Mauk's three seasons on the Kenton varsity team, Mauk threw for 3,309 yards as a freshman, 4,540 as a sophomore and 2,319 yards this year. That gives him a total of 10,168 yards for his career. And he's just a junior.

Unofficially, Mauk ranks 25th on the all-time list, compiled by the National Federation of High School Sports. Barring injury and assuming Mauk has a similar season as a senior, the Kenton signal caller could break the school record. Of course that would also mean that he would break the national record, and the family record, since his brother Ben Mauk threw for 17,364 yards from 1999-2002 as a quarterback at Kenton.

Mauk had seven touchdown passes in the win, giving him 27 for the season. He went over 100 career touchdown passes last week and now has 109 for his career. The national record for touchdown passes in a career is 185 by Chris Leak of Independence (Charlotte, N.C.).
