Baseball Game Preview: Pearl Pirates vs. Florence Eagles

The Pearl Pirates will venture away from home to take on the Florence Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Pearl easily dispatched Terry two weeks ago, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Pearl fell just short of Neshoba Central by a score of 5-3 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Pirates have suffered since February 27, 2024.

Meanwhile, Florence didn't have quite enough to beat Simpson Academy on Wednesday and fell 6-5. The Eagles have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meetings.

Florence saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rod Davis Jr., who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Morgan Weathersby also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Florence's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Pearl, their loss was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-5.

Pearl suffered a grim 11-2 defeat to Florence when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Pearl avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
