Basketball Recap: Sunnyslope Falls Short Against Ranked Xavier College Prep

On Monday, Sunnyslope faced Xavier College Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Sunnyslope Vikings fell to the Xavier College Prep Gators 47-42. The defeat continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Gators: they've now lost five in a row.

Sunnyslope's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maggie Luba, who posted 16 points along with five boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Amelia Mickelson, who scored eight points in addition to eight rebounds and four blocks.

Irene(Noelle) Guiamatsia continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Xavier College Prep, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 16 boards. Those 16 rebounds gave Guiamatsia a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayda Lange, who had eight points and five boards.

Sunnyslope's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-7. As for Xavier College Prep, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-5.

Sunnyslope will face off against Millennium at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sunnyslope is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.9 points per game this season. As for Xavier College Prep, they will square off against Perry at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Xavier College Prep also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 58.4 points per game.
