Softball Game Preview: Ansonia Tigers vs. Russia Raiders

The Ansonia Tigers will challenge the Russia Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Ansonia came into this matchup off a tough six-run defeat on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Covington by a score of 7-5 on Thursday.

Shyann McKenna made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Addie Geyer, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Russia had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tri-Village on Tuesday.

Ansonia skirted past Russia 5-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ansonia since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
