Strom Thurmond is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Friday. They will take on the Batesburg-Leesville Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Strom Thurmond is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 34.6 points per game this season.

Strom Thurmond is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Lincoln County on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Rebels came up short against the Red Devils, falling 45-20.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Deonte Phillips, who rushed for 72 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries.

Meanwhile, Batesburg-Leesville strolled past Mid-Carolina with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 41-24. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now won seven in a row.

Strom Thurmond's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Batesburg-Leesville, they now also have a winning record of 3-2.

Strom Thurmond and Batesburg-Leesville were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in November of 2024, but Strom Thurmond came up empty-handed after an 8-7 loss. Can the Rebels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
