Baseball Game Preview: South Decatur Cougars vs. Hauser Jets

For the second straight game, South Decatur will face off against Hauser. The Cougars will welcome the Jets at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. South Decatur is on an eight-game streak of home wins, Hauser a three-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.

South Decatur will bounce into Friday's game after beating Hauser, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Jets 4-3. The game was the first time the Cougars have beaten the Jets on their field since May 12, 2023.

Corey Nugent spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cayden Drake was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Carter Tull, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.

South Decatur's win bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Hauser, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.

Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. South Decatur has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .431. However, it's not like Hauser struggles in that department as they've averaged .476. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
