Baseball Game Preview: Acalanes Dons vs. James Logan Colts

The Acalanes Dons will square off against the James Logan Colts at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Acalanes' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so James Logan's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Acalanes' pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Bishop O'Dowd. That three run margin sets a new team best for the Dons this season.

Branson Smith tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Acalanes let David Gonzales and Ando Butner run wild. Gonzales went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI, while Butner scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Gonzales has posted since back in April of 2024. Keegan Goddard was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, James Logan beat Dougherty Valley 5-0 on Saturday. The Colts have beaten the Wildcats the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wildcats has come to flipping the script.

Not much got past Wesley Vega, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Dougherty Valley off the board. Vega has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Evan Yau, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Lester Miranda, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Acalanes' victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for James Logan, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.
