Basketball Recap: Sammy Barajas and Sawyer Aubuchon Secure Win for Denver North

After only 30 points in their last game, Denver North made sure to put some points up on the board against Wheat Ridge on Thursday. The stars were shining brightly for the Denver North Vikings in a 75-59 win over the Wheat Ridge Farmers. The Vikings have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Farmers, too.

Leading Denver North to victory were Sawyer Aubuchon and Sammy Barajas. Aubuchon went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points along with six boards and four steals, while Barajas dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 assists. The dominant performance gave Aubuchon a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheo Rodriguez, who posted nine points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Denver North was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Wheat Ridge lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Isaac Mccune, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Amir Nix, who had eight points and eight rebounds.

Denver North moved to 2-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Wheat Ridge, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.

Denver North will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Lakewood at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Wheat Ridge also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Fairview at 12:30 p.m. on January 11, 2025.
