Volleyball Recap: Wasilla Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Dimond

Wasilla faced Dimond in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Warriors fell 3-1 to the Lynx. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lynx apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Wasilla started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-20.

Despite the defeat, Wasilla had strong showings from Marissa Monroe, who had 20 digs and two assists, and Paylinh Luangsaysana, who had nine digs and four aces. Monroe has been hot, having posted 12 or more digs the last seven times she's played. Ava Bonadurer also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Wasilla moved to 8-6 with that loss, which also ended their four-match winning streak. As for Dimond, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.

Wasilla has already played their next contest, a 1-1 draw against Nome-Beltz on the 26th. As for Dimond, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-0 win against Grace Christian on the 26th.
