East Mountain is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Thursday. They will head out to challenge the Ruidoso Warriors at 2:00 p.m. East Mountain is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
East Mountain had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt McCurdy on Tuesday. The Timberwolves put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 14-2 victory. Considering the Timberwolves have won six games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Christopher Moya made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, East Mountain got a massive performance out of Aidan Madrid, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs Madrid has posted since back in May of 2024. Luke Stoerner was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
East Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McCurdy only posted a batting average of .263.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ruidoso). They never let Mescalero Apache get on the board and left with a 20-0 win on Saturday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Warriors with their most commanding win of the season.
Cayden Wilson looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Mason Fikany was a standout: he scored two runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Joel Ortega, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.
East Mountain pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Ruidoso, their record is now 5-7-1.
East Mountain beat Ruidoso 12-8 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Timberwolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
