Basketball Game Preview: Clairemont Chieftains vs. Monte Vista Monarchs

The Clairemont Chieftains will venture away from home to challenge the Monte Vista Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Clairemont is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Granite Hills on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Clairemont came up short against Granite Hills, falling 76-54. The Chieftains were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-19.

Meanwhile, Monte Vista had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They rang in the new year with an 89-79 win over the Komets. The Monarchs' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Monte Vista's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-8. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.3 points per game. As for Clairemont, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.

Clairemont didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Monte Vista in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, but they still walked away with a 48-43 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clairemont since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
