Baseball Game Preview: Casteel Colts vs. Tolleson Wolverines

The Casteel Colts will head out on the road to face off against the Tolleson Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Tolleson took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Casteel, who comes in off a win.

While Colts fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Thursday's season opener. They blew past Corona del Sol 8-2 on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Colts sure are getting used to it with their 12th in a row dating back to last season.

Baylor Denny made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Denny was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryne Barker, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Connor Russell was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Casteel hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in nine consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Tolleson suffered their biggest loss since April 8, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against Highland, falling 7-1. The Wolverines have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Casteel was able to grind out a solid win over Tolleson in their previous matchup back in March of 2018, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Casteel since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
