Softball Recap: Cambridge Takes a Loss

Cambridge had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-5 to make it four. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marshall Cardinals. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Bluejays couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Marshall, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games.

For Marshall's part, Kennedy Weisensel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Weisensel has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carly Checky, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season. Kierstin Hoel was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Coming up, Cambridge will challenge Fort Atkinson at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Marshall, they will square off against Belleville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
