Basketball Recap: Mountain View Takes a Loss

Mountain View was the 63-57 winner over Thompson Valley when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Mountain View Mountain Lions fell to the Thompson Valley Eagles 73-69. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (67), the Mountain Lions still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Mountain View still got an impressive performance from Dylan Garland, who went 10-for-21 to rack up 27 points and six steals. The game was Garland's fourth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyson Mares-Benz, who went 5-for-10 on his way to 11 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Mountain View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive contests.

Thompson Valley was led to victory by Daniel Morgan and Rj Hale. Morgan almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Hale went 10-for-19 en route to 24 points. Morgan continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Tom Mandeville was another key player, going 5-for-7 to rack up 11 points and seven boards.

Mountain View's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Thompson Valley, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-5.

Mountain View has already played their next matchup, a 52-47 loss against Roosevelt on the 11th. As for Thompson Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-57 defeat against Timnath on the 10th.
