Jackson Prep came tearing into Friday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They wrapped up 2024 with a 72-58 victory over the Hueytown Golden Gophers. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked sixth in Mississippi, while the Golden Gophers are ranked 135th in Alabama), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Hueytown lost, don't look at Braylon Patton. Despite the final result, he posted 25 points and five assists. That was a full 43.1% of Hueytown's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of G'Reenie Coleman, who had nine points.

Jackson Prep's win bumped their record up to 14-1. As for Hueytown, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 14 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Jackson Prep wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 80-42 loss against Hoover on the 28th. As for Hueytown, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-54 defeat against Williamson on the 28th.
