Baseball Game Preview: Patrick Henry Patriots vs. Granite Hills Eagles

The Patrick Henry Patriots will face off against the Granite Hills Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Patrick Henry is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Eastlake a 2-0 shutout.

The result came thanks to Cody Cappelletti's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Patrick Henry's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Salvatore Gagliano, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Granite Hills strolled into their game on Tuesday with an undefeated record and they left with the same. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over St. Augustine.

Brenden Lewis made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Lewis was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Parker Vance was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Granite Hills pushed their record up to 23-0-2 with the win, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Patrick Henry, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-9-2 record this season.

Patrick Henry couldn't quite get it done against Granite Hills when the teams last played back in April as they fell 7-2. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
