Baseball Recap: Mount Airy Gets the Win

While Mount Airy's victory against Elkin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Granite Bears had just enough and edged out the Buckin' Elks 6-4. The Granite Bears haven't had any issues with the Buckin' Elks recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Bryson Grey made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Mount Airy is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-9 otherwise. Grey was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cash Hemric, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Barnes, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Mount Airy's record is now 5-10. As for Elkin, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

Mount Airy has already played their next contest, an 8-7 loss against North Surry on the 16th. Hopefully Elkin paid attention to the Granite Bears' match: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Granite Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
