Baseball Recap: Troy Christian Triumphs

Troy Christian took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against National Trail, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles skirted past the Blazers 5-4. While the Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Judah Simmons made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Troy Christian is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 1-2 otherwise. Simmons was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Simmons wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Grady Stillwell, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Stillwell's first of the season.

Troy Christian is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for National Trail, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Troy Christian will host Covington at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for National Trail, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Arcanum at 5:00 p.m.
