Soccer Game Preview: Clairemont vs. Kearny

The Clairemont Chieftains will take on the Kearny Komets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Clairemont's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for four straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Clairemont fell victim to Mission Bay and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They came up short against the Buccaneers, falling 4-0. While losing is never fun, the Chieftains can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 763rd, while the Buccaneers are ranked 102nd).

Meanwhile, Kearny managed to keep up with University City until halftime on Tuesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Kearny lost 3-0 to University City. The shutout was out of character for the Komets seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in December of 2024.

Clairemont's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Kearny, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3-3.

Clairemont came up short against Kearny in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 3-1. Can Clairemont avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
