Softball Recap: Bogue Chitto Comes Up Short

Bogue Chitto came into this matchup off a tough six-run loss last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Loyd Star Hornets by a score of 2-0 on Thursday. The Bobcats have struggled against the Hornets recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Jonna Claire Roberts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in February.

At the plate, Bogue Chitto saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abigail Holder, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base. Holder is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

Bogue Chitto's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Loyd Star, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

Bogue Chitto will challenge Franklin County at 2:10 p.m. on Saturday. Bogue Chitto's pitchers better be ready for this one: Franklin County has averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Loyd Star, they will square off against Mendenhall at 10:20 a.m. on Saturday. Loyd Star will need to watch out since Mendenhall has now posted at least ten runs in their last six matchups.
