Softball Recap: Centennial Eagles vs. Canby Cougars

Centennial extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-3 in the process. They came up short against the Canby Cougars, falling 11-5. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Neveah Norris was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Amiah Rau was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

As for Canby, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-6. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Canby's side, Alli Hayzlett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hayzlett has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Abigail Troutman was excellent, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs. Another player making a difference was Lauren Toma, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Centennial will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North Salem at 4:00 p.m. on May 16. As for Canby, they will face off against Parkrose at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
