Basketball Recap: Port Isabel Comes Up Short

Port Isabel lost against Rio Hondo back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Tarpons had to suffer through a 77-34 loss at the hands of the Bobcats.

Rio Hondo was led to victory by Carlie Rodriguez and Abigail Atkinson. Rodriguez posted 35 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals, while Atkinson scored 25 points in addition to five assists and five steals. The dominant performance also gave Rodriguez a new career-high in assists (five). Evan Ayala was another key player, putting up nine points along with eight assists and five boards.

Port Isabel's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Rio Hondo, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Port Isabel will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Edcouch-Elsa at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Rio Hondo, they will welcome Lopez at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
