Basketball Game Preview: Paw Paw Pirates vs. Union Tigers

Paw Paw and Union are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2019, but not for long. The Paw Paw Pirates will square off against the Union Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Paw Paw's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups.

Paw Paw is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Turkeyfoot Valley Area on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Paw Paw was dealt a 104-68 defeat at the hands of Turkeyfoot Valley Area. The Pirates were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-30.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Union challenged East Hardy on Tuesday. Union came up short against East Hardy, falling 55-32. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Tigers have suffered since February 14, 2024.

Paw Paw has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.3 points per game. As for Union, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-6.

Paw Paw came up short against Union when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 83-75. Can Paw Paw avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
