Baseball Recap: Alhambra Takes a Loss

Alhambra had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 12-9 to make it five. They fell just short of the Campolindo Cougars by a score of 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by just one run.

Keegan Murdock was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.

On the hitting side, Ruadhan Melendez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

As for Campolindo, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-8. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch.

On Campolindo's side, Colin Rutzen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits.

At the plate, Augie Martinez was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was William Myers, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.

While Alhambra had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
