Baseball Game Preview: Straughn Tigers vs. Andalusia Bulldogs

Straughn is 2-8 against Andalusia since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Straughn Tigers will host the Andalusia Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Straughn took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They blew past Brantley 20-10.

Matt Ashberry was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-4. He has become a key player for Straughn: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Tate Watson was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Ashberry wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Straughn lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Andalusia got themselves on the board against Excel on Monday, but Excel never followed suit. Everything went their way against the Panthers as they made off with an 11-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Brayden Ware was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Sawyer Hardy, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Straughn pushed their record up to 5-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Andalusia, the win got them back to even at 4-4-1.
