Football Recap: Chris Munroe Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat South Summit

Layton Christian Academy won the last time they faced South Summit and things went their way on Friday too. The Eagles came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 29-16. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Layton Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chris Munroe led the charge by rushing for 53 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries, while also throwing for 155 yards and one touchdown on only 12 passes. That's the most rushing yards Munroe has posted since back in August of 2024. Layton Christian Academy also got help from Jerome Vito, who showed off his sure hands for 106 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Layton Christian Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 246 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 246 rushing yards in three consecutive games.

Layton Christian Academy's defense stepped up as well, laying out Ian Mair. three times. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Lj Report. He has become a key player for Layton Christian Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one sack, but 1-2 otherwise. Another thorn in South Summit's side was Mark Montgomery, who made eight total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception.

Layton Christian Academy's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for South Summit, they dropped their record down to 2-4 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Layton Christian Academy will take on Judge Memorial Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Summit, they will head out to square off against Summit Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each match than the last.
