Baseball Game Preview: Rock Point Cougars vs. El Capitan Eagles

The Rock Point Cougars will challenge the El Capitan Eagles at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Rock Point played against St. Michael on Tuesday and lost via forfeit.

On Thursday, El Capitan got the win against Red Mesa by a conclusive 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Avery Hammon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for El Capitan: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, Kaden Timpson and Riley Barlow did most of the damage at the plate: Timpson went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Barlow went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. El Capitan is undefeated when Barlow posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Lewis Hammon, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

El Capitan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for El Capitan and bumps their season record up to 11-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Rock Point, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.
