Basketball Recap: Iha Kasam's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Redmond over Lake Washington

After flying high against Hazen last Thursday, Redmond came back down to earth. The Redmond Mustangs fell 62-52 to the Lake Washington Kangaroos on Saturday. The defeat continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Kangaroos: they've now lost three in a row.

Redmond's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Iha Kasam, who posted 24 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Kasam's evening made it 12 games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Sofia Locati was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Redmond smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Redmond's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 11-1 and their overall record down to 19-2. As for Lake Washington, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Redmond didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 76-59 win against Skyline on the 11th. As for Lake Washington, they have also already played their next game, a 58-39 victory against Issaquah on the 11th.
